The Fly Fishing Shop

A wide range of flies from Midge Pupae, Mayfly Nymphs, Shrimps, Appetizers, Butchers, Greenwell's, Palmers, through to the traditional Tups, Wickham's, Iron Blues and Sedges. The Fly Fishing Shop has everything the angler needs. The following are also all available at the well stocked Bakewell shop:

Derwent Valley Flyfishing School

Situated in the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District, an area rich in the traditions of angling. the Derwent Valley Flyfishing School is ideally located to offer a comprehensive range of flyfishing tuition.

  • Basic Casting Tuition; These basic casting lessons are designed for the novice to cover the rudiments of flyfishing. The lessons will show you how to assemble and care for the fly rod, reel and line and how to achieve a simple overhead cast. Three basic casting lessons are recommended for the beginner. Three lessons will include side casting, casting in wind and awkward conditions. Lessons will last approximately 1 hour and take place on well mown grass eg. playing field or large lawn.

  • Basic Casting and Fishing Day Course; Run at regular intervals throughout the year, please phone for details.

  • Individual Fishing Tuition; For people who have basic casting knowledge and would prefer individual fishing tuition on river or lake.

  • Improvers casting Tuition; for people who have basic casting and fishing knowledge and wish to improve their skills on flowing waters. Techniques covered include: the steeple, curve, reach curve, Belgium, backhand, underhand and slack line casts. Lessons last for 1 hour on well mown grass or clients own water.

  • Casting Clinic; The casting clinic offers hope, cures and sympathy in a discrete and friendly atmosphere.

  • Advanced Casting Tuition; Spey casting and Double Haul casting. Lessons are for approximately 2 hours duration at a location by arrangement.

Taught by a local angler who first cast a fly on the River Derwent and a member of the elite Association of Professional Game Angling Instructors.
